A dietitian is a regulated healthcare professional who has completed accredited education, supervised practice, and licensing exams to provide medical nutrition therapy and evidence-based dietary guidance. A nutritionist is a broader, unregulated term that anyone can use, though some certified nutritionists may have formal training but lack the medical authority of a registered dietitian (RD or RDN).
TLDR; Registered Dietitians are legit, “nutritionists” are not.
